Stay in a hotel near fashionable Marylebone

The fashionable neighbourhood of Marylebone is just a five minute walk from The Arch Hotel and a sought-after location for both tourists and locals alike.

An affluent area, it extends roughly from Marylebone Road in the north to Oxford Street in the south, across to Edgware Road in the west and Great Portland Street in the east. The wider area of Marylebone is often said to encompass Regent’s Park, Baker Street and the area to the north of Marylebone Road, where you will find London Marylebone Station.

A slower paced shopping experience

Marylebone High Street and St Christopher’s Place offer a lovely collection of stores where one can shop at a slower pace than on the decidedly more frantic Oxford Street. Offering high end brands and unique boutiques, there’s certainly a wonderful selection; which includes the stylish Conran Shop and the delectable Rococo Chocolates.

With the bustling Oxford Street and the exclusive Bond Street just down the road, visitors can be sure this area delivers the best shopping experience London has to offer.

Eating and drinking

In such a popular part of London you can easily discover bars, pubs and restaurants to suit any palate. For those in search of fine dining, the exclusive Chiltern Firehouse is a must. Although notably hard to book, lucky diners can sit at the kitchen counter and see the chefs at work before sampling some of their mouth-tingling dishes. Dinings and L’Autre Pied also come well-reviewed, offering fine dining flair.

When it comes to pubs, visitors can choose from chic contemporary to traditional British; plus there’s a wonderful array of stylish bars. Whether it’s light nibbles and cocktails or hearty home cooked fare with real ale, there’s something to suit all tastes.

Tourist attractions

The infamous Baker Street, made legendary by its fictional Victorian inhabitant Sherlock Holmes, is just a 15 minute walk away. Literary lovers can visit 221b Baker Street and explore the Sherlock Holmes museum, which aims to faithfully recreate the home of the world’s most famous detective.

The wonderful waxwork experience that is Madame Tussauds is not far away, just around the corner from Baker Street on Marylebone Road. Fun for the whole family, the exhibits change regularly and have been wowing visitors for years with lifelike replicas of celebrities, royals, film stars and more.

Getting there

With The Arch situated in the heart of the Marylebone area, it means you only need step out of the front door to be right in the centre. However, to reach the hub of Marylebone High Street you will need to take a short stroll.

A fairly straightforward route, it will take you approximately 17 minutes. Exit onto Great Cumberland Place, turn right and keep walking until you reach the end of the street. Take a right onto George Street and follow this road all the way along until you get to the junction; turn left and you’ll find yourself at the bottom of Marylebone High Street.

Well served by London Underground stations, local stops for the Marylebone area are Marble Arch, Edgware Road and Baker Street. Meanwhile, Bond Street, Oxford Circus and Regent’s Park are handy for reaching attractions on the edge of the Marylebone area. London Marylebone railway station is just a 12 minute walk away, ideal for those coming into London on Chiltern Railways.
