The lowdown on the Chelsea Garden Show
The RHS Chelsea Flower show, formally known as the ‘Great Spring Show’ is an annual event that has been taking place since 1913, that’s over a century of shows, with the only exception being the gaps taken during both World Wars. Held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in Chelsea, London the show is considered to be one of the most prestigious events to take place every year.
RHS (which stands for Royal Horticultural Society) was founded in 1804 and they have been running the show for all of its existence. Over the years, the garden show has seen some spectacular gardening and floristry talent and impressively; there are three exhibitors that have featured in the show from the very start: McBean’s Orchids, Blackmore & Langdon and Kelways Plants.
In the modern day, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is celebrated beyond its five days at The Great Pavilion. It is a heavily publicised event where organisations go to great lengths to produce extravagant displays, host events, put on shows and so much more. The show is usually attended by several members of the British royal family along with an estimated 157,000 visitors. Along with a whole host of awards, the latest must-have plants are also available for visitors to purchase for their own gardens.
This year the show will take place from the 22nd to the 26th May.
